SUMMARY:Tees Maritime Launch
DESCRIPTION:This event marks the beginning of a region-wide effort to build a world-class maritime ecosystem—one that nurtures talent\, drives innovation\, and unlocks new investment. The launch brings together educators\, careers leads\, industry leaders\, and public sector partners to align skills\, education\, and ambition with the real needs of the sector. \nAt its core\, Tees Maritime is about creating opportunity. As the sector expands and evolves\, so too must the pathways into it. The launch will spotlight the vital role maritime plays in the region’s economic future and open a conversation about how we collectively close the skills gap\, inspire the next generation\, and create clearer\, more accessible routes into maritime careers. It is also a chance to understand how the Cluster will serve as a catalyst for wider growth—championing innovation\, attracting inward investment\, and strengthening the business ecosystem across Tees Valley. \nThis is not just a celebration; it’s an invitation to shape the future. By coming together now\, we can ensure the maritime sector delivers for our people\, our economy\, and our region for generations to come.

SUMMARY:Pint of Science
DESCRIPTION:Managing climate change is critical to the future of mankind\, and our very own Tees Valley is pioneering the way. Come find out about the opportunities\, changes\, successes and novel initiatives of the Teesside climate industry! \nThe event will feature a trio of speakers: \nExploring Public Perception: Hydrogen and Teesside’s Economic Growth\nDr Clair Cooper (Just Transition Project)\nTo help industry across the Tees Valley Region\, create opportunities for growth and employment\, the region has been identified as a hub for hydrogen innovation\, production\, storage\, use and transport. However\, little is known about how people that live in the Tees Valley perceive hydrogen. This talk will share insights from a short study that tells us more about how people feel about the Tees Valley\, how they perceive transition hydrogen economy and future research in societal acceptance of hydrogen. \nConnecting Offshore Wind Electricity with Hydrogen\nDr Alessandro Giampieri (Postdoctoral Research Associate)\nThe integration of offshore wind electricity with hydrogen production has the potential to help move towards a net zero society. This talk will explore the main technical and economic aspects and discuss the feasibility and profitability of producing\, transporting and storing hydrogen or hydrogen carriers using offshore wind electricity. What are the main challenges? How much can the price of offshore wind-to-hydrogen be reduced in the future? \nHydrogen: A Clean and Flexible Energy Carrier\nDr Mahdi Amanipour (Assistant Professor)\nHydrogen has the potential for use in transportation\, commercial\, industrial\, residential\, and portable sectors. Hydrogen can store and deliver usable energy\, but it doesn’t typically exist by itself in nature and must be produced from compounds that contain it. It can be produced from diverse\, domestic resources. Currently\, most hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels. In the longer term\, solar and wind energy can be used more directly to generate hydrogen as new technologies make alternative production methods cost competitive.

SUMMARY:Net zero performance
DESCRIPTION:This event is open to Chamber members only. If you’re not a member and would like to attend\, or discuss the benefits of membership\, please email: your@neechamber.co.uk. \nRecent history informs us that change in the workplace has been profound. Organisations have changed beyond belief in recent times. The regulatory framework has also seen a number of changes\, with firms also asked to embrace & show progress towards a ‘net zero’ future. \nTo help reach net zero by 2050\, the UK has made a series of ambitious pledges. The target will require the UK to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050\, compared with the previous target of at least 80% reduction from 1990 levels. \nThe changes being made nationally include: \n\ngenerating all electricity from clean sources by 2035\, e.g.\, from wind\, solar and nuclear projects.\nbanning new petrol and diesel cars from 2030.\ninstalling 600\,000 heat pumps a year by 2028 to replace gas boilers.\nusing carbon capture to remove between 20 and 30 million tonnes of CO2 a year by 2030.\n\nThis knowledge net-zero series will draw upon inspiration from several different sectors to shine a light on best practise\, whilst encouraging honest discussion. \nNo two journeys to net-zero will be the same\, but a robust strategy for action will be essential to making a strong and credible commitment and to make it possible to achieve the transformational change required. \n\nThis event will offer insights from electricity generators & electricity distributors on their path to net zero.\nWe will then focus on the ‘built environment’ & the progress the consultant\, the client & the contractor are making towards net zero.\nWe will also hear from Innovate UK KTN with regards broader funding in this area.\n\nThis event\, through the support of our members\, will provide insight into how organisations across the North East are addressing the challenge. We will explore a pathway through a value chain including. \n\nReviewing progress on net zero energy generation\, including electricity generation\, fuelling the future\, and providing an infrastructure fit for the 21st century.\nDesigning and constructing the future.

SUMMARY:Tees Valley Skills Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Speak Up to Skill Up! \nThere’s nothing more crucial to the future of the North East than having the right skills and getting the right talent pipeline in place will enable the region to succeed. Every business has an interest in improving the North East’s skills system so join us at this workshop and give your views. \nWe will be looking for the answers to two simple questions – \n· Which skills do you find it difficult to source/ recruit? \n· If you could change one thing about the local skills system\, what would it be? \nThe government has tasked the North East England Chamber of Commerce with working with businesses in Newcastle\, Northumberland\, North Tyneside and the Tees Valley to understand their needs and create a blueprint for skills and training to take the region’s economy forward\, this plan will then be made statutory and put into law. \nSo\, your opinions will have real weight and change things\, the more input we receive\, the better the plan we can produce. \nPlease note\, this event is not open to training providers
