A £250 million development to establish Middlesbrough as the leading digital city of the UK will break ground in 2020.

Construction of the £45million first phase will commence in the summer of 2020, creating a digital campus with three 20-storey, 250ft skyscrapers; 750-seat amphitheatre beneath a glass atrium and outdoor public realm space to host events such as lectures, cultural events and entertainment.

The development will also incorporate Boho 8, which will see the creation of 10,000 sq ft of bespoke modular office space delivered in Autumn 2020.

The development will be housed in the existing digital cluster of Middlesbrough – The Boho Zone – expanding facilities to meet the needs of this burgeoning sector.

Set to complete in 2022, the first phase will remediate 9 ha of Brownfield land, create c. 115,000 sq ft of prime business accommodation and include a complementary residential offer delivered by a third party developer.

It will lead to 1,000 new jobs in the digital and creative industries, rising to 2,000 jobs in future phases.

The project includes funding from Tees Valley Combined Authority, Middlesbrough Council, and a third party consortium. The development presents numerous opportunities for digital and creative businesses of all sizes, from start-ups to scale-ups and multinationals.
