Family entertainment venue Level X is celebrating three years of trading in Middlesbrough this month.

Featuring a go-karting track, virtual reality zone and ten-pin bowling, the venue was the first outlet to open in the revamped Captain Cook Square in February 2023.

It has since been joined by the fashionable Bazaar restaurant, soft play kingdom Fun Shack, trampoline park InflateSpace, the Wendy’s fast food joint and boutique cinema Roxy Movies.

Middlesbrough Council bought the square in 2020 and has used government funding to remodel former shops for leisure use.

Set over two floors, Level X is packed with arcade games, dodgems, interactive darts boards and pool tables.

Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke has congratulated the business on its third anniversary.

“Level X’s first three years in our town centre have flown by,” Mayor Cooke said.

“It’s an excellent business model that’s expanding across the UK. We should be proud it’s succeeded in Middlesbrough.

“Level X feels like a perfect example of how to transform former retail space into an attraction that offers so much fun and excitement to different generations. It’s done a fantastic job of attracting people to Captain Cook Square.”

Level X group managing director, Gavin Hughes, said: “Guests have continued to flock to us, the business has grown significantly over the last three years.

“It’s been enormously exciting to see the way families and groups in the town have taken to our commitment to providing supercharged experiences in a unique environment.

“We’ve got big plans for the future with new and upgraded gaming experiences, and we know the people of Middlesbrough – who are second to none when it comes to enjoying a great night out – will embrace them fully.”

Building on the success of Level X, Captain Cook Square is set to welcome its latest tenant in the coming months.

An announcement will be made soon on the business that is taking over the unit next door to Bazaar that was formerly a Middlesbrough Football Club shop.
